From Concept to Product

Shayna provided us with an example of the preliminary design.  She also provided us with some hand drawings and some images of the plant and shape that she had in mind.

From here we were able to draw up some new 3D CAD drawings using the Solidworks software.  After each change we would send her a Step file of the new model and await her feedback.

Shayna chose to get the designs she liked produced as 3D printed prototypes.  This was so she could get a sense of how the GrowProbe would look and feel as a final product.  It didn’t take long to come up with a solution that suited both her vision, and the Plastic Injection moulding process.

Once Shayna confirmed the final design,  we were able to go ahead with designing a mould tool ready for Active Plastics to build and produce the parts.

Shayna was introduced to us by Active Plastics.  We provide Active Plastics with technical support.  She had an idea for a product and had some preliminary work completed.The vision that she had for the GrowProbe was for it to be based on the ZZ Plant (Zamioculas zamiifolia) a popular indoor house plant with a striking leaf pattern.

Shayna provided us with some hand drawings and a step file of a design that she had on hand. She wanted to change the original design. She wanted something with more body and shape in the leaves, but this would present a problem with distortion during the Plastic Injection Moulding process.

With Guys knowledge in the plastic industry he was able to overcome this design challenge and offer alternative solutions to provide the look Shayna had envisaged.
