How it all started
Guy began his career in 1989 when he started working as an apprentice cadet in a leading plastics manufacturer in Hamilton New Zealand. The Cadetship Apprentice programme covered multiple types of plastics manufacturing including, Injection Moulding, Blow moulding, Thermoforming, Toolmaking, Design, Offset and Screen Printing and Plant Maintenance, all of which were carried out within the Hamilton Plant.
At the end of his apprenticeship, he was promoted to team leader, responsible for the daily management of a group of Injection Moulding machines that ran 24hrs per day. This role required, staff management, production management, problem solving, product improvement and involvement in design and new product development.
After 8 years with the company gaining extensive plastics manufacturing experience, it was time for the big overseas adventure. He took a leave of absence and travelled to the UK where he travelled and worked for the next 2 and a half years. Several of the jobs he held during this period were in Plastic Injection Moulding Companies. On his return to NZ he went back to the Hamilton Plant and held the position of Injection Moulding Technician.
An opportunity arose to take up the role of Production Manager at the newly founded Millennium Plastics in 2000. This role required many functions in a brand-new cleanroom moulding facility including, employment of staff, staff training, machine installation, moulding machine setup, setup of support processes and introduction of new products.
During the next 17 years as the company grew to become a leading supplier in NZ he held several positions, including Operations Manager and Technical Manager. He has travelled extensively throughout the world for his work attending trade shows, visiting moulding machine manufacturers and sourcing tooling.
Since leaving Millennium he has put all his knowledge into “GF Designs” his own new company. In 2021 wife Noelene joined the company where they work from their home office on the outskirts of Hamilton
